KNOWSLEY SKILLS ACADEMY RECEIVE SUPPORT FROM THE DEPARTMENT FOR EDUCATION

Posted by: admin

Knowsley Skills Academy is delighted to announce that it has received direct support from the DfE to deliver Military Ethos within Education. The funding will be used to target four specific areas.

1.    Early Intervention.Working in partnership with primary/secondary schools, to prevent pupils at risk of becoming disengaged or excluded from education. We aim to provide support to the teaching staff  in order to raise the self-esteem, resiliance and aspirations of young people, by means of focusing on personal qualities such as punctuality, health, well being and physical fitness, to aid their transition to secondary school. KSA will achieve this by working along side teaching staff to identify and share best practices. by using selected aspects of *traditional military training techniques both in house and at school, on a basis of individual progression, and through educational development, specifically targeting functional skills.

*The emphasis is on team work, mutual respect, communication, team building activities –   patience with others

2.    Alternative Education. Working in partnership with secondary schools, alternative provision providers and pupil referral units, utilising the core values of the military ethos to better equip young people to access mainstream education in order to be all they can be and achieve their  full potential.  The aim would be to boost self-esteem and provide structure and motivation to improve pupils educational attainment, by means of preparing them to reintegrate into mainstream educational environment.

3.    Post 16 Transition.Working in partnership with other agencies, to work with post-16 transitions from secondary to post-16 education/training who are at risk of becoming disengaged.  The emphasis for this group will be on values based leadership training and improving and developing their  personal abilities through military related individual and team tasks such as problem solving, incorporated work related learning. Our instructors empathise fully with these young people, being from similar social backgrounds and use personal experience, accrued from their military service, to fully illustrate “options” to these young people when making hugely important life choices.

4.    NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) Working in partnership with other agencies, Registered Social Landlords and the youth service to reintergrate and re-engage young people to prepare them for post-16 education, training or employment. In appropriate cases part time study. and training will be provided in house, alternatively in other cases through partner training organisations.  For example, promoting with young people the option of an apprenticeship or vocational training leading to a career or sustainable employment.
